As part of Hoogtij #58, and to commence our series of events dedicated to poetry, Page Not Found organized a screening of Robert Ashley‘s TV-opera ‘Perfect Lives’.
A distinguished figure in American contemporary music, Robert Ashley (1930 – 2014) holds an international reputation for his work in experimental forms of poetry, music, opera and multi-disciplinary projects, many of which incorporated electronics and extended techniques. His recorded works are acknowledged classics of experimental use of language in a musical setting.
“Perfect Lives’ is a television opera “about” a bank robbery, cocktail lounges, geriatric love and adolescent elopement. Above all it is one of the most important late twentieth century text-sound compositions and an ever inventive and topical work which shows how the interdisciplinarity of opera can be applied to contemporary art and culture.
Additionally a special presentation was made around the books and other published works made by Robert Ashley.
Maria Barnas and Nathalie Bruys: Variations on The Truth
Page Not Found is delighted to start 2020 with an evening of poetry and sound art by Ships to Nowhere.
Maria Barnas (poet and visual artist) and Nathalie Bruys (sound composer and visual artist) have been working together on and off since Max A Max B in 2001. Only recently they have finally come up with a name for themselves: Ships to Nowhere and are still doubting if this is the right one.
At Page Not Found Barnas and Bruys will present a selection of their wide range of works, ranging from Max A Max B, about leading double lives, to The Lost Park, about an actual park that turned into fiction, and Song for Three Rooms, about… ?
Barnas and Bruys will expand on the works and share their ideas and insights which will probably change as they speak. If anything can be said about their work, it is that it provides variations on the truth. Questions may be asked; answers can not be guaranteed.
A live performance of their most recent work Sound Shine Files, a conversation between two future robots who chance upon a leftover clump of human civilisation, will most probably complement the evening.
Page Not Found opened its doors on the 20th of Januari, 2018.
Time is an Arrow, Error ‒ Book Launch with Katja Mater and Elisabeth Klement
Page Not Found is delighted to invite you to the launch of “Time is an Arrow, Error”, the new publication by visual artist Katja Mater! Join us to discover this publication and listen to Katja and Elisabeth discuss its making. – Two clock-faces are staring at each other. They are two sides of one thing, as different as they are the same. They move as two bodies revolving around each other, into a tender embrace. A kiss, made of time, in time. Mirrored shape shifters, their hour-numbers climbing on each other’s shoulders. Running up against the limits of their own usefulness, clocklikeness. – Time is an Arrow, Error brings together 79 clocklike images that were made between March and May 2020 at home. With a text by Amelia Groom and designed by Elisabeth Klement. Each spread brings together two sides of a clock-face, flipped, rotated, mirrored. Combined with 26 notebook pages; sketches planning out how 12 becomes 10 and 11 becomes 7 1 becomes 0, 7 becomes 5, 1 becomes 2 1 en 2 become 12, 3 becomes 8, 7 becomes 4, 5 becomes 6, 9 becomes 10 1 becomes 11, 2 becomes 3, 7 becomes 4, 3 becomes 8 1 becomes 2, 3 becomes 8, 4 becomes 7, 1 becomes 11, 1 becomes 11, 3 becomes 8, 9 becomes 6, 4 becomes 10, 2 becomes 7 1 becomes 5, 2 becomes 9, 3 becomes 8, 1 becomes 4, 3 gets erased, 9 becomes 6, 2 becomes 5, 11 becomes 12 3 becomes 8, 4 becomes 7, 1 becomes 12, 6 becomes 7, 3 becomes 9, 4 becomes 8, 10 becomes 2, 11 gets erased. 9 becomes 3, 1 becomes 11, 7 becomes 5, 4 becomes 8 1 becomes 12, 11 becomes 4, 7 becomes 8, 5 becomes 9, 3 becomes 18, 2 becomes 13, 10 becomes 6 6 becomes 5, 1 becomes 10, 2 becomes 9, 3 becomes 8, 7 becomes 4 1 becomes 2, 4 becomes 7
