The staff of Page Not Found and Nest call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, to spare the lives of civilians, many among them children!
In solidarity, we invite you to our event on Friday 24 November, from 18:00, at Page Not Found, Boekhorststraat 126.
Donations collected at this occasion will be matched by Page Not Found and Nest (up to what our budgets allow) and given to the Medical Aid for Palestinians, along with that evening’s incomes.
Rosalind Nashashibi’s film “Electrical Gaza” will be screened, followed by an open poetry reading. You’re welcome to bring along a text or poem that gives you strength in these dark days, and share it with the audience.
In ‘Electrical Gaza‘ Rosalind Nashashibi combines her footage of Gaza, and the fixer, drivers and translator who were her constant company, with animated scenes. She presents Gaza as under a spell; isolated, suspended in time, difficult to access and highly charged. She shows us Gaza as she experienced it in the quiet pause before the onslaught of Israeli bombardment in the summer of 2014. Nashashibi travelled to Gaza with producer Kate Parker and cinematographer Emma Dalesman.
Commissioned by the Trustees of Imperial War Museum. Director of Photography: Emma Dalesman. Producer: Kate Parker.
Follow this link to read recent reflections from Rosalind Nashashibi on the history and making of the film.

Open Letter — Minsook Kang
On October 6, 2023 we have the pleasure to unveil the new Open Letter: “Native Tongue” by Minsook Kang.
Minsook’s letter reflects her ongoing research project “Native Tongue”. This project encompasses a beautiful appropriation: In 2009, the Cia-Cia community, an ethnic minority residing on Buton Island, Sulawesi, Indonesia, adopted the Korean alphabet, Hangul, as their official script in an effort to preserve their endangered language. In 2022, Minsook went to Indonesia to delve into the anthropological dimensions of this remarkable adoption. The Open Letter features a table showcasing her findings from her interviews with the Cia-Cia community. They adopted ‘old Hangul’ symbols, no longer in use in the Korean language.
”Native Tongue” is accessible anytime from the street at Boekhorststraat 128 until 3 November 2023!
Open Letter — Renata Mirón
On September 3, 2023 we are unveiling Renata Mirón’s Open Letter in our storefront!
Renata’s text is an excerpt from a radio seance excersise in which she channeled the spirit of a witch. The letter is on view through October 1 and is accessible anytime from the street.
On September 25, Renata Mirón will facilitate a feminist reading club and a performative moment around her Open Letter at Page Not Found with the company of her collective Radio Echo. Open Letters is a public space project initiated by Page Not Found in 2021. Based on an open call it gives artists and writers from The Hague room to publicly reflect on the current turbulent times. This project was inspired by Paul Maheke’s short essay ‘The year I stopped making art. Why the art world should assist artists beyond representation; in solidarity.’ , which was the first letter published in our storefront and was followed by five selected proposals by the local artists in 2021 and five winning proposals in 2022. We kindly thank Stroom Den Haag for supporting this programme!
Typographic Night VII – With Inna Kochkina, Xiaoyuan Gao and Laura Pappa!
On Friday, 15 September 2023 at 18:00, we welcome you to the seventh session of Typographic Nights at Page Not Found, co-curated with Trang Ha and Paulina Trzeciak.
Page Not Found has been organising “Typographic Nights” since 2021. These sessions offer a space for graphic designers and the public to gather around understandings and misunderstandings of the graphic design process. Audience members may bring texts which they would like to see transformed into visual works. These could be either small pieces of their own writing, borrowed fragments, or hand-picked inspirational quotes. The invited designers and typographers materialise these texts into beautiful printed matter on the spot, demonstrating their skills and knowledge and sharing inspiration. Works are printed the same night, available to take home. The evenings reveal the curiosity, fun, improvisation and care that are part of graphic design, from choosing a typeface to applying analog materials, and much more!
To submit your own text to be designed by the guests during this live session, please follow the link!
Inna Kochkina is a graphic designer and visual artist based in Amsterdam. Her practice spans a spectrum from type design and print to installations, with a strong emphasis on typography. Inna’s creative process is often rooted in research, deeply influenced by the social and political impacts on written language. In her current work, she researches Old Cyrillic letterforms and their historical utilization as tools of cultural imposition and linguistic imperialism in Russia and the former USSR.
Xiaoyuan Gao is a Rotterdam-based freelance graphic designer, image-maker, type designer and the initiator of “notyourtype foundry”. In her practice, she loves experimenting with unconventional approaches to type design and typesetting. She sees type design (making custom characters into a font file) as making a tool for typing, just like a customised typewriter. She also enjoys creating visuals out of found images , which allows her to combine typography and imagery in playful ways.
Laura Pappa is a freelance graphic designer based in Amsterdam. Her clients include Kunstverein Toronto, Het Nieuwe Instituut, Museum of Estonian Architecture, project space ROZENSTRAAT, Biennale Matter of Art, and publishers Art Metropole and Valiz. She has previously taught graphic design at the Royal Academy of Art in the Hague and ArtEZ Institute of the Arts; currently she is a visiting lecturer in the graphic design MA program at the Estonian Academy of Arts. Next to commissioned work and teaching she occasionally tries her hand at writing, organising events of various kinds and undertaking new hobbies that never catch on.
This Typographic Night is made possible thanks to the support by Pictoright and Stroom Den Haag.
NEU Commission
Page Not Found is thrilled to announce the launch of the NEU Commission, with the kind help of Salwa Foundation!
The NEU Commission intends to support the emergence of alternative voices within contemporary art. A particular group currently under-represented in Europe is composed of art students with limited financial means, who are required to provide a guarantee for their visa, and to pay high Non-EU tuition fees. These requirements are an economical barrier to the participation of this group in art and knowledge production in The Netherlands, removing from the expected polyphony of contemporary art voices from radically different backgrounds.
Page Not Found will commission four art students from non-European countries to each write an essay or a free-form text in English. The selected writers will receive a financial compensation.
Please follow the link to find the application form and read the conditions.
The open call for selecting them is now live! And will end on Sunday 17 September, 2023!
The commission is made possible thanks to Kunstpodia 2021-2022 grant from the Mondriaan Fonds.

RELEASE — a solo exhibition by Özlem Altın
On July 1, during The Hague Contemporary Art Weekend, we open a solo exhibition “Release” by Özlem Altın!
Artist and publisher Özlem Altın explores the body at rest and the inanimate in action in her paintings, collages, photographs, and artist books. To create her work, Altın digs through a photographic collection she has assembled over the years, combining found images with her own photographs into a dense constellation of amalgams. By finding connections between layers of photomontage and ink, the artist prompts viewers to create narratives by “acknowledging what is happening in between the images.” Some emotionally resonant images—the mask, the mermaid, the heron—are symbols that she frequently returns to; they embody something part human and part animal, or a state of in-betweenness, and are recurrent in her work. Her flowing yet complex nets of images contribute to elaborate a narrative, at times mythological, on the bodily existence. The exhibition “Release” is accompanied by a display of Altın’s publishing, which plays a vital role in her artistic process.
In 2022, Özlem Altın was part of the 59th Venice Biennale “The Milk of Dreams” curated by Cecilia Alemani. Furthermore, she most recently participated a.o. in “touch.Politiken der Berührung“, Berlin (2023); “Tongues of Time” in Villa Romana, Florence (2021); “Companion Pieces“, MoMA, NY (2020); “The Seventh Continent“, 16th Istanbul Biennial (2019); and “We don’t need another hero“, 10th Berlin Biennial (2018).
Altın received a Master of Fine Art in 2006 following the postgraduate studies at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam, The Netherlands (2004-2006). Altın was a guest-professor for photography in HGB Leipzig in 2020-2021, and currently is UMPRUM visiting artist at the academy in Prague. She lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
The exhibition lasts until September 3, however Page Not Found is closed for a summer break from July 24 to August 22.
